A man and his dog have teamed up to get a handle on a poop problem in the U-District. Tom Finnelly and his dog Jerry have been clearing geese away from the UW campus for the past two years.

It’s a volunteer job with a simple concept. When the 8-year-old German shorthaired pointer spots some geese, he scares them away with his bark. But Tom and Jerry are careful not to disturb the goose population during their nesting season.
“There is a pair of resident geese we leave alone,” Finnelly told The Daily, “as well as their baby geese.”
Tom and Jerry have succeeded when other methods have failed. Some fake coyotes on the crew docks don’t even scare the geese anymore, but Jerry’s bark sure does. Reporter Tyler Steele has more about the duo in The Daily.
