Emmert wants to leave UW early

August 18th, 2010 · 1 Comment

Update, August 20:   Our partners at the Seattle Times report Emmert’s last day at the UW will be Sept. 30.  He won’t lose one month’s salary but he will leave behind about $700,000 in deferred compensation he does not have a vested right to collect.

Original report:
UW President Mark Emmert is trying to leave his position one month earlier than expected.  Emmert was supposed to start his new job as head of the NCAA on November 1.  But according to our news partners at the Seattle Times, Emmert is now saying that he wants to leave the UW on October 1.

Emmert would have to give up one month’s salary, $51,666,  if he leaves without giving six months notice.  But in a special meeting of the Board of Regents,  the board decided the university could change that condition.  Negotiations are now underway.  You can read the full story in the Seattle Times here.
