This Friday is the 4th Annual AVEventure along University Way NE, more commonly referred to as “The Ave.” From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., participating businesses from NE 41st Street to NE Ravenna Boulevard will offer specials and freebies. Pick up a U-Pass and get it stamped at the businesses along The Ave.

Once a passport is filled up, head to the “Up Your Ave” party at the University Heights Community Center (5031 University Way NE) for a free t-shirt and fun. There will be dancing (with a break dancing demonstration at 5 p.m.), art demonstrations and a hot dog eating contest at 6 p.m.

No streets will be closed down for the event, but the Seattle Department of Transportation warns that area streets might be congested.

September 29th, 2010 by master

Almost 60 women from across the UW campus joined forces this week in a mass Locks of Love donation event.  The 450 inches of hair will help create wigs for disadvantaged children suffering from hair loss due to disease.

“It’s a great way to give back to the community,” Rachel Hart told The Daily. “There are kids out there who need wigs, and if you don’t donate, who will?”

The event was hosted by the UW Women’s Center and Panhellenic Association.  Reporter Nick Visser has more in The Daily.

The owner of the well known Hardware Store Restaurant on Vashon Island is opening a restaurant/lounge in the U-District.  Melinda Sontgerath and her husband Dick have applied for a liquor license as they open 50 North.  The establishment will be in the Northcut Landing complex at 5001 25th Ave NE, apparently in the space vacated by Fondi Pizza.  We’re not sure what type of food 50 North will be offering, but we have a call in to the owner to find out more.
