Traffic alert for President Obama's visit to the UW campus on Thursday

October 20th, 2010 · 2 Comments

Commuters are being warned about traffic delays during President Obama’s visit to the UW campus tomorrow (10/21).  A rally for Senator Patty Murray is set for Thursday at Hec Ed Pavilion with doors opening at 9am.  The President is expected to speak around 11am to a crowd of more than 10,000. While SDOT says there is little information on the routes and times of the President’s movements due to security reasons, you can expect closures on Montlake Boulevard before and after the event.  Rolling closures on major arterials and the interstate are also expected once the President leaves the UW campus.  Public transportation is highly encouraged.

King County Metro has more than 15 bus routes that travel to or near the UW campus and U-District.  They say buses may be crowded and subject to delays tomorrow, so give yourself plenty of time.  Also, due to heightened security around the rally location and for the presidential motorcade, some buses may be rerouted with short notice.  These type of reroutes will not show up on the Trip Planner, but should be displayed in Metro’s Alert Center.
