Gun used in one of two street robberies

Updated: Here is more information on two robberies that occurred Saturday night in the U District.

Two incidents of robberies occurred on February 26, 2011. The first, at approximately 7:40 p.m., involved a male UW student who was walking southbound on Roosevelt Way, N.E. near N.E. 42nd St. He stopped to give $5 to a transient. As he continued walking, two suspects approached him from the rear and asked, “Do you have any cash to spare?” As he opened his wallet to give the suspects some cash, they pushed him against the wall and took his backpack and wallet. The suspects fled in a south and west direction. No weapon was seen or implied, and there was no injury to the victim. The suspects remain at large. One is described as a black male, late 20’s, 6 feet tall, medium build, wearing a gray and black baseball cap, gray hoodie, and dark pants. The second suspect is described as a white male, late 20’s, 6’2″ medium build, wearing a blue hoodie and dark pants.

The second incident was an armed robbery that occurred at approximately 11:59 p.m. Two female UW students had just parked their vehicle in the alley behind 4700 16th Ave N.E., when a suspect approached them and demanded their purses. The suspect pointed a handgun at them, aiming at the lower half of their bodies. Both victims gave the suspect their purses. The suspect ran westbound between the houses. The victims were not injured. The suspect remains at large. He is described as a white male, early 20’s, appropriately 5′ 8″ in height, medium build, wearing a black stocking cap and a black puffy jacket.

Earlier: The Seattle Police crime map shows two street robberies happened Saturday night in the U-District. The one in the 4700 block of 16th Ave NE involved a gun. Another robbery happened in the 4200 block of Roosevelt. The complete police reports won’t be available for another two or three days.
