1$ Paseo Sandwiches! SpoonRocket from SF CA Launches on UW Campus

February 10th, 2015 by master

Start-up from San Francisco Really Knows How to Speak to Hungry Seattleites by  Inviting them to Enjoy $1 Paseo Sandwiches Delivered Curbside Within 10 Minutes!

They’re calling the kick-off event the “Dollar Hype Meal”

Whatever they call it, offering Paseo sandwiches speaks to our Seattle Hearts. Especially after the scare that we would be loosing Paseo forever when they abruptly closed last year.

So, what’s the deal?

Spoonrocket, an on-demand meal delivery start-up from San Francisco, is launching on the University of Washington campus to deliver good food, fast to any curb within 10 minutes.   The company is kicking off its arrival by partnering with Paseo, Seattle’s top Caribbean restaurant, to offer $1 sandwiches to customers who order through SpoonRocket on Wednesday, February 11th from 11:30 am to 1 pm all students are invited to grab a $1 and experience the magic of SpoonRocket for themselves.

The idea for SpoonRocket started with Steven Hsiao and Anson Tsui while at UC Berkeley.  They shared a mission to revolutionize fast food by delivering affordable, gourmet meals in a matter of minutes. Seattle is their second city to launch in.

SpoonRocket will feature Paseo’s most popular menu item, its Caribbean Roast Sandwich, as part of Wednesday’s offer.  The sandwich is a slow roasted, pork shoulder coated in Paseo Marinade and is regularly available for $8.50.

To participate in Wednesday’s Hype Meal, customers can order online at www.spoonrocket.com or download the app on Wednesday, February 11th between 11:30 am and 1 pm.   Food is available while supplies last and will be delivered on February 11th during service hours.

Hungry folks, take note: Orders are limited to one sandwich per customer.

SpoonRocket will continue serving the UW campus during lunch hours between 11:30 am and 1 pm.  Lunch partners include Paseo, Bomba Fusion, Thanh Vi and Banh Mi. Menu items are retail price, with a $3.50 delivery fee.

Youth Restoration at the Park: YMCA Earth Service Corps Cleans up Cowen

February 3rd, 2015 by master

On a recent walk to Cowen Park at the end the North end of University Ave, there was loud rustling in the bushes as teens from the YMCA Earth Service Corps worked to restore habitat.

The YMCA Earth Service Corps provides teens in our communities with a curriculum of environmental education. Through service projects, field trips, and outdoor adventures, the YMCA hopes to facilitate these students to become strong, confident, and responsible environmental leaders.

I spoke with Jeff, the director of YMCA-ES and volunteer Randi who shared with me a little about the program. They said that they go from park to park and facilitate the work with the teens from area high schools. They go to different parks every month. Follow their progress on their Facebook Page.

To help this organization continue to empowers students, check out their website. This innovative youth-led program helps teens take a hands-on role in creating a healthier environment in their schools, communities and region while nurturing a respect for diversity within the natural world.
