Help Kickstart a New Beginning for Scarecrow Video as a Non-Profit!

August 13th, 2014 by master

Scarecrow Video Is Evolving Their Business Model for the Future by Creating a Non-Profit Organization to Preserve the Past.

Calling all cinephiles! Help Scarecrow Video reach it’s goal of $100,000 on Kickstarter.

As you know, Scarecrow Video has been a valuable resource for all-things-film since 1983. As the invention of streaming has cut into the movie rental business, Scarecrow Video has been fighting to stay afloat!

Scarecrow isn’t and has never been just your average video rental place. It has been an indispensable business that prides itself on its support of the community, independent film and rare out of print titles. The staff not only has a passion for the history of film, but a powerful devotion to keeping what Scarecrow Video has become alive and thriving! With the help of their fiscal sponsor, the Grand Illusion Cinema, devoted staff have come together to create this Kickstarter campaign.

For the love of all-things-film, and our very own treasury of history, I know you will want to help support their effort!

Rural film festival coming to the Grand Illusion

February 29th, 2012 by master

Need an escape from the city without leaving the city? The Grand Illusion Cinema is hosting a film festival devoted to rural people and places called the Rural Route Film Festival. From an impressionistic documentary about Iowa to an amateur remake of Footloose to the story of a Lebanese beekeeper, the festival is an artful and eclectic look at the dusty backroads of the world.

Three different programs will be screened the week of March 16 through March 22:

Friday, March 16; Monday, March 19; Thursday March 22: 7pm
Ten of the best narrative, experimental and documentary short films from the 2011 festival.

Saturday, March 17; Tuesday, March 20: 7pm
How do you grow fresh vegetable with no land? With some dirt and a truck bed! From the makers of past fest (and Grand Illusion) hit, King Corn.

Sunday, March 18; Wednesday, March 21: 7pm
SELECTED TRAVELS: Driftless, Sand Mountain, Land of the Pure
Down home stories from Iowa, a journey through borrowed culture, and tourism in an unlikely, out-of-the-way place.

The creators of Rural Route Film Festival leave it up to filmmakers to create their definition of the word.
