Sun (and a little rain) at the U-District Street Fair

The U-District Street Fair — and all the sun, music, food and entertainment that went along with it– concluded this Sunday evening.

Seattle locals "Slimpickins" play some old-time American music at the bus stop on the Ave's 4500 block.

The "Quichua Mashis" play music from the Andes, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. They played Saturday on the lower end of the Ave.

Big weekend around U-District

Get ready for a full weekend of events around the U-District, featuring the 41st annual U-District Street Fair this Saturday and Sunday.  In addition to all the vendors, two main stages will be set up featuring music and entertainment.  Click here for an updated map of booths.

Meanwhile, merchants at U Village will be offering discounts in an effort to promote cancer awareness. “Shop to make a Difference” runs this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you purchase a cure card for $25, you’ll receive a 20 percent discount at participating stores and restaurants. The 3-day event benefits women’s cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. The Mobile Mammography Van will also be at U Village during the event to provide personal screenings for women. Here’s a full list of participating merchants.

Finally, the Beat the Bridge race kicks off at 8am Sunday at Husky Stadium.  Montlake Blvd. closes to vehicle traffic that morning at 7:30am.

Countdown to U-District Street Fair

Booths are almost full for the 41st annual U-District Street Fair, the longest running street festival in the nation.  The annual event is set for May 15 and 16, and in previous years has drawn as many as 50,000 people.  In addition to all the vendors, two main stages will be set up featuring music and entertainment.
