Free wreath making event taking place this Saturday

The popular wreath making event at the U District Farmers Market is back. You can pick up free boughs, ribbons and ornaments at University Heights Community Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 1. The boughs are trimmings from Seattle Public Utilities’ Ceder River Watershed. U District businesses are supplying the decorations. You can also get free cider courtesy the UHCC and Farmers Market. This is the events sixth year.

U-District Farmers Market and Chamber host Harvest Celebration

The community is invited to an evening of music, food and wine at the 2o10 Harvest Celebration.  The event is hosted by the U-District Farmers Market and the University Chamber of Commerce.  It takes place next Tuesday, October 19 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in the Hotel Deca’s Governor’s Room (4507  Brooklyn Ave).  Cost is $15.

Local elected officials and members of neighboring chambers will be on hand.  Enjoy munchies from farmers market vendors and sample wine from Steppe Cellars.   Rockridge Orchards will also have cider tastings.  RSVP by this Friday (10/15) to programs@udistrictchamber.org or call 206-547-4417.

U-District Farmers Market voted 5th best in the state

It didn’t make the list of top 20 farmers markets in the nation, but the U-District Farmers Market did finish 5th best in our state in a recent contest. The online contest by the American Farmland Trust wrapped up just after midnight this morning. The Ballard Farmers Market finished first in the state with 1285 votes, followed by Olympia, Auburn, Prosser, and the U-District.

U-District hosts farmers market feast

The University District Farmers Market will once again play host to this year’s “Incredible Feast” on August 22.  The event, put on each year by the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance, will be held under a giant tent featuring over 30 gourmet dishes all prepared with fresh farm ingredients.  You can also enjoy country fair games, live music, and a dessert auction.  Tickets are $80 per person or $150 for a pair at brownpapertickets.
